Kevin English started painting at 12 years old with two cans of 96-cent spray paint and an old pigpen. “I’m from a pretty small town,” Kevin says of his hometown, Powhatan, Virginia. “I grew up on 100 acres with nothing better to do. Someone I knew had painted something on the side of his barn. I asked my mom to get me two cans of spray paint, one green and one white, so I could do a piece on the door of our barn. It didn’t turn out too great, but I quickly evolved with markers, spray paint, airbrush, and acrylic.”
Now fresh out of high school, Kevin, who sometimes uses the pseudonym Killian Earnhardt, says, “Each painting is what I like to call a ‘visualization.’ I have no sketches going in, just a main layout. I draw and paint whatever comes to my mind. It’s just amazing to me because [my paintings] also tell a story of my life. No matter how I was feeling, I always used painting to describe the day. I can look back – and for example, be like April 10th, 2017 – I was mad or happy or sad, whatever emotion I was feeling. Honestly I’m not sure where it comes from. All I know is I’m glad I have it.”
